Vanilla Sky by ~yasunta:iconyasunta:

The sky churned with its pink and orange crevasses,
blue with its perplexing ill-glow,
much like the emotions I swam into
the instant we made contact.

Swirls of pain, a hurricane of you and me,
in the midst of its bittersweet fate.

The intoxication and sweet solitude
that was imminent of you;
all caught up high above in the heavens,
humbled by its stinging rays,
wedged deep into my skin.

I jump into the salt-filled lagoon,
digging my nails into this slimy stream
of confusion and hopelessness;
eager to end this anger-stricken state.

All I could see was your face,
clearing in the water,
the colors slowly fading away into
a mixture of white, green, black,

...and nothingness.

Author's Comments

Something I wrote about the vagueness yet exhilirating feel of looking up at the sky and wishing you could just fly and soar in the wind, letting go of anything, anytime, to go anywhere, and to be with that someone you want to hold close.

I suggest you read the poem first before reading beyond this line.

This poem is more narrative than it ought to be, because there's actually a story behind every stanza. This is a story of lovers where the first part tried to describe the emotions, the second one the situation, the third one was the effect of each one towards the other, while the fourth stanza was what happened after (the salt-filled lagoon symbolizing the tears), and the fifth stanza as an infinite conclusion to what can happen in the void of its nothingness; that within this seemingly unclear space lies still a cynical and yet lucid disposition of its future.

Last, but not the least: the lover doesn't have to be a real one, meaning a person. It can symbolize other things like your happy childhood, your old house where you grew up, and the like.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Much love.
